Natural History and Science Museums

Natural_History_Museum_1.jpg

I'll never forget when I did my first internship at the Wolfsonian-FIU museum and thought, I can work here forever. My boss/mentor at the museum told me to go out and try other industries. She was right because it made me realize how precious that internship was. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I find museums endlessly inspiring for my work and life in general.

The Natural History Museum in Kensington is very cinematic. Feels like you're walking into a 1800s London film. They had a large room full of minerals organized by kind and color. Yes, I was in my element.

Imagine being able to just walk in anytime and start sketching these guys?!

 Earth colors for life.

A little behind the scenes of Hope the whale. The museum itself isn't that large and we probably finished viewing it in an hour. Off we went to its neighbor, the Science Museum.

The love of my life, Futura, making space print everlasting.

Ok, I almost fainted at this part of the museum. Design evolution at its finest. So this series of decades were organized alongside a long wall. Starting off with the 1900s. Those were some creepy times. Everything was dark brown and metallic. I didn't photograph it because it was too creepy. The above photo is from the 1940s-1960s.

It just made me wonder how people lived during these times. What they were thinking, doing, imagining, etc. The dunhill logo is so good.

How creepy is that baby gas mask body suit thing? Thinking of how war affected so many people and future generations. Yet we keep moving forward.

These inventions are what I use/d to connect to the world. Has been a huge part of my life. From early childhood till right now typing this! Being able to learn about other cultures and being able to express myself, feels like a privilege. It's very powerful for the good and bad. It's just how you use it.
